The Acaderma Scientific Board: A team of PhD scientists and researchers, including IFSCC award-winner Dr. Shuting Hu and Prof. James Simon, specializing in longevity plants and skin biology

Meet Our Team

A Letter from the Founder

When I earned my PhD in Biological Science at 26, I asked myself a simple question: Could my discoveries in skin biology live beyond scientific publications—and truly make a real impact?

I loved conducting skin-cell experiments and discovering new bioactives. But I couldn't stop thinking about how much longevity science remained locked inside journals and patents—far from the people facing modern aging, driven by chronic stress, pollution, and accelerated cellular inflammation.

After my postdoctoral research, my journey led me from Hong Kong to Sydney, and later to San Francisco, where I became the first entrepreneur from Asia selected for Sephora's Accelerate Program (2018). It was there that I began to see how longevity-driven science could move beyond the laboratory—into real products, real routines, and real lives.

Together with Prof. James Simon, our research team leader, I founded Acaderma based on that realization. To us, skin longevity means supporting the skin's long-term vitality and the resilience of life itself. We don't fight aging—we study the biological mechanisms behind it, so skin doesn't just look better, but truly functions stronger over time.

Acaderma was never meant to be just another skincare brand. It was born as a translation platform—to bring innovative longevity science from academia into clinically proven skincare solutions for you.

For over 15 years, I've remained devoted to this single mission—and only one. This is what Acaderma does, and my life's pursuit as a scientist.

XO,

Shuting,

on behalf of Acaderma scientists team

Our Scientists

The Team Behind Acaderma

Dr. Shuting Hu, PhD

Co-Founder | CEO

Dr. Shuting Hu is an award-winning scientist-entrepreneur recognized for bridging advanced academic longevity research with real-world impact in skin biology. As the first Chinese recipient of the prestigious IFSCC Young Cosmetic Scientist Award and a Longevity100 Honoree, she is a leading authority at the intersection of longevity science and clinical skincare.

Academic Foundation: She earned her PhD in Biological Science from The University of Hong Kong, specializing in cellular autophagy, chronic inflammation (inflammaging), and DNA repair mechanisms.

Scientific Contributions: Dr. Hu is an inventor on 9 patents (4 granted) and the author of 10+ peer-reviewed publications. Her research focuses on the development of novel bioactives, including autophagy inducers and compounds for pigmentation disorders, anti-inflammaging, and DNA photoprotection.

Industry Leadership: In 2018, she was the first entrepreneur from Asia selected for the Sephora Accelerate Program, highlighting her role in translating complex molecular discoveries into high-performance, consumer-ready solutions.

Beyond the laboratory, Dr. Hu is a professional astrophotographer. By capturing the science of the universe, she explores the relationship between life, light, and time.

Prof. James Simon

Co-Founder | Chief Scientist

Prof. James Simon is a world-renowned authority in Botanical Therapeutics and Longevity Plants. As the Research Team Leader at Acaderma, he oversees the discovery of high-performance bioactives, ensuring every plant is backed by both traditional wisdom and rigorous clinical validation.

Academic Authority: A Distinguished Professor at Rutgers University, he is the recipient of the 2017 Chancellor's Award for International Impact. He has spent over 30 years leading federally funded research (including USDA and NIH) into natural plant products and their impact on human health.

Scientific Output: With over 493 peer-reviewed journal publications, Prof. Simon is a leading voice in Phytochemistry (the chemistry of plants). His work focuses on identifying the molecular "fingerprints" of plants that allow them to thrive in extreme environments.

Global Impact & Sustainable Sourcing: He has led international development projects in over 30 countries, specializing in the sustainable sourcing of Longevity Plants. His work ensures that Acaderma's ingredients, such as Kinkeliba, are ethically harvested and of the highest biological potency.

Acaderma Integration: Prof. Simon bridges the gap between the field and the lab. He validates the molecular purity and biological efficacy of our botanical extracts, ensuring they effectively target the pathways of skin aging.

Beyond academia, he also serves his local community as a volunteer firefighter at the Princeton Fire Station.

Prof. James Simon, Acaderma Research Team Leader and Distinguished Professor at Rutgers University, expert in botanical therapeutics and longevity plants.

Dr. Daisy Wu, PhD

Co-Founder | R&D Manager

Dr. Daisy Wu specializes in Translational Skin Research, bridging the gap between molecular discovery and high-performance skincare. Her expertise ensures that Acaderma's patented bioactives are not only scientifically sound but are formulated for maximum bioavailability and precision.

Academic Expertise: She earned her PhD in Biological Science from The University of Hong Kong and an MSc from Wayne State University. Her research focuses on the use of 3D artificial skin models to study the complex molecular pathways of pigmentation.

Pigmentation Authority: Dr. Wu is an expert in the lifecycle of skin pigment, specifically the mechanisms of melanin synthesis, melanin transfer, and melanosome degradation. This deep-cell knowledge allows Acaderma to address hyperpigmentation with pharmaceutical-level rigor.

Delivery System Innovation: She specializes in the design of trans-epidermal delivery systems. By creating stable, skin-compatible platforms, she ensures that high-potency molecules effectively bypass the skin barrier to reach their intended biological targets.

Translational Strategy: Through sustainable, science-driven formulation strategies, Dr. Wu converts raw laboratory findings into clinically validated skincare systems, ensuring that every product achieves enhanced stability and measurable efficacy.

Dr. Daisy Wu, PhD, R&D Manager at Acaderma, specializing in 3D artificial skin models, melanin pathways, and skin-cell signaling.

Dr. Grace Qian, PhD

Co-Founder | Chief Chemist

Dr. Grace Qian is a specialist in Analytical Chemistry and sustainable industrialization. She is responsible for the molecular purification and quality standards of Acaderma's proprietary bioactives, ensuring that every laboratory discovery can be scaled into a pure, stable, and commercial-ready ingredient.

Academic Foundation: She earned her PhD in Chemistry from The Chinese University of Hong Kong. Her research expertise lies at the intersection of Green Chemistry and advanced purification technologies.

Green Extraction & Sustainability: Dr. Qian leads Acaderma's commitment to eco-conscious science. By replacing conventional toxic solvents with advanced green chemistry processes, she ensures that our extraction methods are as gentle on the planet as they are effective for the skin.

Structural Characterization: To guarantee 99%+ molecular purity and consistency, she utilizes state-of-the-art analytical techniques, including Preparative and Analytical HPLC, Mass Spectrometry (MS), IR Spectroscopy, and multi-dimensional NMR (¹H-NMR, ¹³C-NMR, 2D-NMR).

Industrial Scalability: Dr. Qian manages the critical transition from "lab to shelf." Her work in column chromatography and analytical validation ensures that Acaderma's patented bioactives maintain their structural integrity and biological potency during large-scale production.
